The adventure of SUPRA began in 1873 in Obernai, France. Alexander Scheyen, a hardware dealer of the marketplace, started to manufacture wood-burning cookers in order to diversify his activity and reply to the growing demand of Obernai population for such appliances.
In 1895, the Blum family acquired this company and named it B.F.O, Blum Frères Obernai (French for Blum Brothers Obernai). Their thirst for innovation and their passion for their profession allowed them to bring this small sized manufacturer to an industrial sized company.
In 1920, SUPRA introduced a new range to its offer and started to produce heating appliances. Its first crafted round-shaped wood stove was a big success with more than 100 000 sold units.
In 1928, the development of a new wood cooker marked the birth of the company SUPRA. It was one of the first successes of the company. The cooker had a magnificent traditional flower design with enamel paint. The trade brand SUPRA was created for this product with the following slogan “Cuisinière SUPRA, cuisine Extra! “ (French for “Supra cooker – kitchen cooler”)
In 1957, the market for wood cookers suddenly collapsed. The company SUPRA S.A. will begin to manufacture innovative oil stoves with removable burners under the brand ORANIER. This event will turn SUPRA to a market leader among all French heating appliance manufacturers.
In 1974, after the Kippur war, energy savings were central concerns of the population. Then SUPRA had an ambitious idea – turn fireplaces to real efficient heating equipment. SUPRA has patented its invention – the closed firebox for fireplaces.
In 1979, the second oil crisis pushed the company to keep on innovating. The idea to turn an oil stove to a wood stove was developed in 4 months.
In 1987, SUPRA extended its offer by introducing a new product range – electrical heating appliances. SUPRA became heating and comfort supplier for the entire house.
In 1988, SUPRA acquired the brand Richard Le Droff, a manufacturer specialized in stone fireplace surrounds.
In 2011, SUPRA SA innovates again by developing a whole range of wood burning appliances equipped with FSU – Fire System Unit – technology. This breakthrough technology has high heating and ecological performances, money saving with optimum comfort use.
In 2013 SUPRA SA doubled its efforts to develop pellet stoves appliances to reply to the growing demand on the markets.
Both energy saving and ecological, new pellet stoves are the beginning Supra’s new technological quest.
Today SUPRA SA is a heating specialist which is conceiving, manufacturing and distributing wood or pellet burning appliances. While developing new products our engineers are always adding an innovative design or technology which was always our creed.
